Disaster Drill; KFD Rescue Squad Damaged by Gunfire; Passenger Rail Expansion and More

March 9, 2022 8:30p

From WGTD News:

A mock disaster will take place Saturday morning on Gateway's Kenosha campus. Students in the nursing, physical therapy assistant and EMS/Paramedic programs will be able to apply their skills to deal with 'victims' from a fake accident that's to take place in the parking lot of the Inspire Center. That's the building that has a wing that's made to resemble a hospital ward. 'Patients' from the drill will be taken inside to be treated. ' To add extra realism to the Saturday event, Flight for Life and a rescue squad will be on hand.

Plans to expand passenger rail service between Chicago and Minneapolis, via Sturtevant, Milwaukee and Madison, appear to be on track. State transportation departments in Wisconsin and Minnesota announced Wednesday that the project has been awarded nearly $32 million for station and rail segment improvements. The plan is to have in place two daily round trips between the cities, relying in part on existing Hiawatha service between Chicago and Milwaukee, and the long-haul Empire Builder that runs between Chicago and the west coast. The additional service is expected to begin in 2024 if not sooner.

The Racine Fire Department is stressing the importance of tenants having renter's insurance. According to a report in the Racine Journal Times, tenants in just one of the 16 units in the Maples apartments that were destroyed by fire last month had such insurance. Renter's insurance typically costs less than $200 annually. The Feb. 25th fire is believed to have begun in the basement. The suspected cause has not been announced.
