(WGTD)---Authorities are preparing Kenosha, Somers and Pleasant Prairie residents for the strong possibility that the overnight curfew will be in place through Sunday.
Although officials at a Wednesday news conference indicated that the timetable is fluid, the sheriff's department put out a news release later in the day indicating that the curfew will in fact be in place through Sunday night.
They're also moving up the deadline for being off the streets from 8 p.m. to 7 p.m., believing that it'll be easier to clear the courthouse area of protesters while there's still daylight.
Kenosha County Sheriff Dave Beth praised residents for cooperating, saying the declaration is doing its job, even though protesters and others are still gathering. He said authorities plan to be more "assertive" with enforcement. .
Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian is in full support of a curfew. "We need to make sure that people are off the streets so law enforcement can do their job," Antaramian said at the Public Safety Building news conference. "I think sometimes people think that because you call a curfew it's there so you can just give tickets to everyone. And it's not. It's there to protect the public," he said.
