Election Day; Kraut Fest Investigation; Opioid Overdoses

Tuesday is election day for some of us. Voters in the 64th Assembly district are going to the polls in a special election to pick a replacement for Peter Barca. The Democrat resigned recently to take a position in the Evers administration. On the ballot are Republican Mark Stalker and Democrat Tip McGuire. The district covers parts of Kenosha and Racine counties.

A former co-chairman of Kraut Fest is under investigation. Authorities are saying little, but a Journal Times article suggests that the investigation has something to do with Kraut Fest funds. Jim Svoboda recently resigned as director of Caledonia-Mt. Pleasant Memorial Park. The weekend summer music festival--held at the park--- has already been cancelled for the year.

In the City of Kenosha over a four-day period ending Sunday, paramedics responded to 10 opioid overdoses. The Kenosha News reports that all of the patients were revived with Narcan. The paper quotes a fire department official as saying the majority of the victims were men. They ranged in age from 29 to 64. The paper quotes Kenosha County Medical Examiner Patrice Hall as saying that it's possible that a batch of strong fentanyl or fentanyl analog-laced heroin might be to blame.
