Flying Tour of the Country Gives Authors a Unique Perspective

(WGTD)---All kinds of writers have explored the wide expanse of the United States and written about it -  but James and Deborah Fallows undertook that exploration in a different fashion-  by flying their small plane to more than 25 different small cities across the country.

James Fallows is perhaps best known for his work in the Atlantic Monthly---his wife is also a writer, and a linguist.

They’ll be in Kenosha Monday night to speak at Carthage College.

Appearing on WGTD’s Morning Show this past week, James Fallows said the couple’s 100,000 mile excursion was very much in the tradition of the classic American Road Trip - but with its own unique spin. "It allowed us to go to a lot of places that aren't on interstates and see things from 2,000 feet up," he said.

James and Deborah Fallows's book about their experience is titled "Our Towns."

Monday’s Carthage appearance will take place in the Siebert Chapel beginning at 7.

The discussion—to be moderated by Snap-On C-E-O and Carthage Trustee Nicholas Pinchuk—is open to the public.
