Forest Park Neighborhood Pit Bull Attack Injures Grandmother; Child OK

(WGTD)---A 67-year-old Kenosha woman was seriously injured while trying to protect her one-year-old granddaughter from a pit bull attack.

It happened two weeks ago in the Forest Park neighborhood on 67th St. about three blocks east of Forest Park Elementary.

The woman, who asked that her name not be used, told WGTD News that she was pushing a stroller with the baby inside when the dog, tethered to a stake in the ground, apparently pulled it out and came charging. The woman said she fell to her knees as the dog bit her on the head, arms, back and legs. Pepper spray that the woman had—and used—had no effect.

The stroller toppled over onto the baby—a good thing because it shielded the child from the attack. The baby wasn’t hurt.

The dog owners came running and pulled the dog off the woman.

The alder of the area—Jack Rose—said at a recent city council meeting—that pet owners need to be vigilant. "If you're going to have animals you need to take care of those animals," Rose said. "It is your responsibility."

According to a police report, the dog owner was cooperative and said she planned to have the it euthanized because it had been involved in an earlier but less serious incident. The owner also received a citation.

The victim said she needed nearly two-dozen stitches and several rounds of antibiotics. She still hasn't completely recovered.

Despite it all, she tells us it could’ve been a lot worse.
