Fund Drive Underway to Replace Stolen Habitat for Humanity Tools

Sept. 4, 2025 9:10p

(WGTD)---A fundraising effort is underway to cover at least part of the cost of replacing over $10,000 worth of tools that were stolen from two construction trailers owned by Habitat for Humanity of Kenosha and Racine counties.

The thefts were discovered Tuesday morning when workers returned to a job site in the 1300 blk. of 50th St. The thieves gained access by bypassing saw-resistant locks and cutting through the trailer doors.

All of the stolen items--believed to be around 40--were registered with their serial numbers on a national database, according to agency director Angela Elliot. In addition, all of the items were 'branded' with the initials HFHK. "We do everything we can to secure the trailers," said Elliot, noting that thefts from construction sites are unfortunately not uncommon.

Elliot says police will be checking area pawn shops.

In the meantime, Habitat is working to replace the tools as quickly as possible so work can continue on three new homes that are being built on the block.

Donations are being accepted here.

Elliot is also checking out the possibility of getting help from a group that takes in used tools for distribution to other non-profits.

Elliot says she'll also be brainstorming ways with staff on how to better protect items that are stored in the group's trailers.
