Gang War Brewing in Racine?

May 18, 2021 2:40p

(WGTD)---The fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man at a gas station in Racine over the weekend appears to be tied to the murder from the weekend before of a 17-year-old boy, and all may be gang-related.

The connections were made by a prosecutor at an initial appearance Tuesday for one of two suspects in Saturday's gas station shooting.

According to a criminal complaint, 17-year-old David Luckett allegedly fired a gun at close range into the head of 20-year-old Deveon Robbins. An alleged accomplice, 16-year-old Obie Glover, then purportedly fired his gun. Altogether, Robbins sustained nine gunshot wounds, according to Assistant Racine County District Attorney Antoinette Rich.

Luckett purportedly was at a gathering earlier in the evening for Dontrell Bush, the teen who was killed May 7th.

When asked why he shot Robbins without apparent provocation, Luckett reportedly said "it was either going to be them or us."

At Tuesday's initial appearance, Rich said Luckett is a known gang member and that she's fearful of additional retaliatory moves. "This could only be the beginning of some of the things to come," she said.

Police apparently have yet to locate Glover.

Luckett's 13-year-old brother is in Juvenile Court for allegedly trying to intimidate a witness to the gas station shooting. The witness is a female who reportedly was with Luckett and Glover on the night of the shooting.

Bond for David Luckett was set Tuesday at $250,000.

An 18-year-old man is in custody in connection with the shooting of Bush which took place at a party. The defendant said he thought he was being set up and that Bush may have had a gun. That did not appear to be the case.
