Racine---A couple from Union Grove is accused of virtually hijacking their employer's business. 56 year-old David Mutter and his 57 year-old wife, Nancy, are charged with one count each of theft.
According to the criminal complaint, the Mutters signed on three years ago to handle the business side of things for a Burlington contractor. Not before long, the Mutters were giving themselves raises and writing company checks to cover personal taxes and house payments, the complaint says. The by-now suspicious and scared owner was refused access to his own financial records.
Perhaps most troubling was a $500,000 life insurance policy that David Mutter purportedly talked his employer into buying, leaving Mutter as the beneficiary.
The Mutters were released from custody Thursday after signing their own bonds. In all, the owner is claiming a loss of over $80,000.

Mt. Pleasant---Police are asking any one who's driving about in the early-morning hours to be watchful of suspicious activity in and around auto dealerships.
Two more businesses were broken into early Thursday morning on top of the dealership that was entered last Monday.
In the Monday break-in at Porcaro Ford, three vehicles were stolen. One was recovered and the 13 year-old male driver arrested.
In the latest break-ins, the thieves attempted to steal vehicles but were unsuccessful.
Police believe the incidents are gang-related, and involve youths from Milwaukee, which has suffered a rash of similar crimes.
