Jacob Blake Participates in Court Case on Previous Charges Via Zoom

Sept. 4, 2020 1:40p

(WGTD)---Jacob Blake appeared in Kenosha County intake court via Zoom Friday to be formally charged with a domestic violence incident that occurred last May.

Blake is the 29-year-old Kenosha man who was shot in the back by a Kenosha police officer. The shooting triggered violent protests, and left Blake paralyzed from the waist down.

Blake, from his hospital bed, and one of his attorneys, Pat Cafferty, were pictured during the proceeding. Blake was wearing a shirt and tie, and answered Court Commissioner Larry Keating's questions with a subdued but clear voice.

Blake is facing three domestic-violence related charges of 3rd Degree Sexual Assault, Trespass and Disorderly Conduct for an incident that involved a 28-year-old woman.

A warrant for Blake's arrest on those charges is what prompted officers to handcuff Blake to a hospital bed, even though he'd been shot seven times. The handcuffs were removed after Cafferty posted a $500 bond.

In court Friday, a signature bond was set with the previously posted $500 as a condition. Cafferty said Blake has no criminal record.

He waived Blake's preliminary hearing.

The case was assigned to Judge Bruce Schroeder and a pre-trial date of Oct. 21st was scheduled.
