(WGTD)---Kenosha’s clinic for low and moderate income residents is opening a third site, enabling it to expand the number of patients it sees. It’s all thanks to a recently received, nearly $6 million state grant.
The money will be used by the Kenosha Community Health Center to buy and remodel the building on Washington Rd. that once housed Herzing University classrooms. Herzing recently moved downtown into the building that used to be home to the Kenosha News.
A news release posted on the Kenosha Community Health Center’s website indicates that the new clinic will aim to address health disparities and improve overall community health. For one thing, the clinic is expected to house under one roof a wide range of services covering primary medical, dental and behavioral services. The release says the new approach will include non-specified, wrap-around non-medical services to overcome barriers that might be preventing some residents from accessing health care.
Word of the expansion of the Kenosha Community Health Center comes just days after Gov. Evers delivered a $20 million grant to the Racine Community Health Center. The money will be applied to the cost of building a stand-alone clinic near Julian Thomas Elementary. A temporary location was recently established in the basement of the school, but it has yet to open.
