Kenosha County to Open Larger Vaccine Clinic Next Week

Mar. 3, 2021 3:10p

(WGTD)---Kenosha County Public Health's COVID vaccine clinics are moving from the Job Center to a larger venue beginning next week.

The former Shopko building on 52nd St. will be able to accommodate vaccinations for up to 2,700 people per day, according to Kenosha County Health Officer Jen Freiheit. That's more than double that of the Job Center. The department store site will also make it easier to achieve social  distancing.

The move will be effective, Wednesday, Mar. 10th.

But when and if the new site reaches capacity is dependent on vaccine supply.

So far, 15.6% of the county's residents have received at least one dose. 8.7% of county residents are fully vaccinated, according to the health department's website. The county will reach the herd immunity level when 75% of the population, or nearly 128,000 people, are vaccinated.

Appointments for the vaccine are still required either by calling 262-605-6799 or going to the county's COVID response hub website.

"I encourage those who are 65 or above, in particular, to seek out an appointment and receive the vaccine if they haven't already done so," said Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser.

Teachers and other essential workers in the state became eligible to receive the vaccine on Monday, even though individuals in the first category are still receiving inoculations.
