Kenosha: Curfew Over

Sept. 2, 2020 1:10p

(WGTD)---Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian announced Wednesday afternoon that the overnight curfew has been discontinued.

"After consulting with local law enforcement agencies, I have decided the curfew is no longer needed. The last several nights have been relatively peaceful in the community, and in the judgment of law enforcement, it is appropriate to remove the curfew," Antaramian said in a release. "However, criminal activity will not be tolerated and arrests will be made if needed. I am hopeful there will be no need to reinstate the curfew in the near future,” he said.

A curfew was declared several hours after Jacob Blake was shot a week ago Sunday.

It had been in effect ever since, although officials had modified the hours to begin two hours later at 9 p.m. The change was to have taken effect tonight.

As of early Sunday evening, over 100 people were arrested for curfew violations, and this week, several protesters went to federal court to try to block it.
