A Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputy who shot and killed a man last fall has been cleared of any wrongdoing. Deputy James Campbell has been on administrative duty since he shot 47-year-old Darren Fude in the chest. Campbell and other deputies had gone to the Fude home in Paddock Lake to question Fude about a motorcycle accident. Fude appeared at the door with a loaded shotgun, which he then pointed in the direction of Deputy Campbell. The deputy fired multiple shots, six of which hit Fude in the chest, according District Attorney Bob Zapf (pictured), who ruled yesterday that the shooting was justified.
At the time of the shooting, Fude’s blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. Fude also had marijuana in his system. Fude’s wife and two of his children were home at the time, but they had gone into the kitchen, possibly in anticipation of trouble.
