(WGTD)---In the wake of last week’s violence and destruction in Kenosha, Sunday was a day of recovery and learning for the Otero family of Kenosha.
First, Jose and Patricia Otero and their seven kids, ranging in age from three to eleven, painted some murals on a boarded-up storefront on the north side near where they live.
Then it was a trip to the uptown area to view the damage there and demonstrate support for racial justice. All of the kids carried signs reading “Tolerating Racism is Racism.”
Patricia Otero said she and her husband were out to teach some lessons to their bi-racial family. "Basically just to show them the meaning of everything and to help our community stay strong together," she said.
Over the weekend in the uptown area, volunteers helped to clean things up and paint inspirational messages on the still-boarded up windows. Free barbecues were also held.
