KIN & Carthage Open a Program For Fledgling Entrepreneurs

Oct. 12, 2025 7:30p

(WGTD)---Carthage College is launching what’s expected to be an annual program that’s designed to guide entrepreneurs through their business adventures.

The 10-month-long program is a combination of Saturday classroom instruction, mentorship from other entrepreneurs and assistance from Carthage business students. The classroom part will be held at the new Kenosha Innovation Center.

Carthage business professor Joseph Tenuta says the program is suited for high school students all the way up to recent retirees. "This program is perfect for that retiree who wants to start his own handyman service. That baker who's really popular among family and friends and they're all telling the person to go out and start your own business. The person who makes great tacos and wants a food truck. There are livelihood types of businesses that can range (through) all sorts of industries," he said.

Speaking on The Morning Show this past week, Tenuta said the program is part of the nationwide “Biz Starts” curriculum and takes a step-by-step approach to make starting your own business manageable. "Nothing stops someone faster than becoming overwhelmed and scared to proceed. We're looking to get those local residents in and show them the steps. Help them through the 10 months and let them know they can do this," he said.

On the other hand, it’s possible that an enrollee in the program may ultimately decide that entrepreneurship isn’t something they’re interested in.
