Knife-Wielding Man Confronts Kenosha Police

Very early Wednesday morning---Kenosha Police had a confrontation with a man who was armed with both a knife and a box cutter---and---refused multiple commands to drop both weapons. According to a Kenosha Police department press release---the incident began with a number of 9-1-1 calls reporting the man walking around and making threatening statements like “One wasn’t good enough…one down…one to go.” The armed man then called dispatch himself several times to announce a “countdown timer.” Through prior contact records---police obtained a possible identity on the man and learned of prior mental health and weapons calls involving him.

Several times during the incident the armed man advanced towards officers---who moved away and maintained a safe distance. He wouldn’t talk to the police and refused their orders to drop his weapons. When the suspect started to approach a patrol sergeant---the sergeant used his squad car to hit the man at a low rate of speed. That knocked the man to the ground---and---disarmed him. He was quickly taken into custody. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries before being taken to a hospital for further treatment. Officers found evidence that the man was impaired by alcohol and a prescription medication. The as-yet-unidentified man is currently being held in jail on charges of 1st degree reckless endangering safety and obstructing an officer.
