(WGTD)---A major north side Kenosha intersection that's been partially closed for months because of road construction will reopen even though the project isn't done.
The early onset of winter weather forced construction crews at the intersection of Washington Rd. and 30th Ave. to curtail their work.
The $1.7 million state project includes a redesign of the intersection and the replacement and relocation of utilities. Travel has been restricted through the intersection since the middle of summer.
The project was to have been completed by Dec. 19th. But the cold weather forced crews to abandon hope of pouring any additional concrete, at least any concrete that has any hope of standing the test of time.
Kenosha Public Works Director Brian Cater says the current plan calls for the installation of a temporary surface of some kind in the lanes that have yet to be paved. Cater says that'll make possible one lane of traffic in each direction through winter. One downside is left turns will be prohibited.
The temporary surface--to be laid in the next couple of weeks-- will be removed once the weather warms up. Crews will then resume their work.
