KPD Cop Rescues a Driver; Mt. Pleasant Man Surrenders After Standoff

(WGTD)---A Kenosha police officer saved a life Saturday morning when he pulled an unconscious man from a burning vehicle. The victim apparently had a medical emergency while driving in the 6600 blk. of 32nd Ave. at about 10:30 a.m. The man slammed into a parked vehicle, setting both on fire. The officer arrived on scene prior to the fire department and pulled the man from his vehicle, suffering smoke inhalation and a back injury in the process, according to police. Both the police officer and the victim were taken to the hospital. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived. The officer who was injured is expected to be released after treatment. There was no immediate word on the condition of the man.

(WGTD)---An armed man who'd been drinking held Mt. Pleasant police at bay for a time early Saturday morning before surrendering peacefully. Authorities were called to the 2700 blk. of Fancher Rd. just before 4 a.m. on a report of an intoxicated man with a gun. Officers surrounded the home. They eventually were able to talk him out. 24 year-old Nicholas Gunderson was jailed on charges of endangering safety, armed while intoxicated, pointing a firearm, domestic abuse and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
