From WGTD News:
In Kenosha Unified for the time being, the mandatory mask rule will stay in place, but quarantine procedures will be modified. The Kenosha School Board Thursday night left intact the requirement that students and staff all wear masks. But instead of sending entire classrooms into quarantine if a student or teacher tests positive for COVID, only those contacts who come down with symptoms will need to stay home. Officials will still inform classmates and others who’ve been in close contact with a ‘positive.’ The changes were approved by a unanimous vote of the board, and will remain in effect through summer school. The modifications were endorsed by Kenosha County Health Officer Jen Freiheit, who answered questions from board members via a video hook-up.

Martice Fuller is scheduled to be sentenced Friday afternoon for killing his ex-girlfriend and wounding her mother in 2019. The hearing will be streamed live on WGTD’s You Tube channel, just as the complete trial was earlier this year. Friday's proceeding is scheduled to begin at 1:30. Fuller will receive the mandatory life in prison sentence for the 1st Degree Intentional Homicide conviction. Judge Mary Wagner has the authority to set a parole eligibility date, if one is even offered. She’ll also need to decide how much prison time to assess on the attempted murder charge.

An effort by state investigators to clear up a backlog of sexual assault evidence kits has resulted in rape charges being filed against a Racine man. The cases—from Kenosha—date back to 2014 and 2015. 46-year-old Matthew Crockett made his first court appearance Thursday. Bond was set at $250,000. Crockett is also expected to be charged with two additional sexual assaults that occurred in Racine County. Authorities said DNA evidence collected from four kits all matched up, but a corresponding match was unable to be found in law enforcement DNA databases. The investigators went a step further and found a match in a genealogical database. That led investigators to question Crockett’s relatives, who fingered Crockett as a possible suspect. Investigators then examined Crockett’s garbage, and came up with a definitive match. The two Kenosha cases involved women who were literally snatched off the street and assaulted in vehicles.

The Racine Planning, Heritage and Design Commission has approved plans for a mixed-use development in downtown Racine that’s expected to fill a vacant lot where Porters Furniture once stood. Meeting for a second time this week on the project, the Commission voted unanimously Thursday night to grant a conditional use permit. This, after several minor design changes were made to the new seven-story structure to make it a better match with existing buildings in the area. The Commission’s recommendation now goes to the full City Council. The proposed building is expected to have both underground, and ground-level parking that will be hidden behind a pair of spaces set aside for retail. The upper floors will be devoted to over 140 market-rate apartments. The roof will include a dog run.
