Local Briefs: Plane Crash; Racine Homicide; KPD Officer's Condition Unknown

The pilot and a passenger in a single-engine plane that crashed in the Town of Burlington Sunday afternoon suffered life-threatening injuries and were flown in separate helicopters to a Milwaukee hospital. That from the Racine County Sheriff’s Dept. The crash site was the backyard of a home. The department said the plane had trouble gaining altitude from takeoff at Burlington Municipal Airport. It narrowly missed a tree line, and the house itself. Both victims had to be extricated from the wreckage. No one on the ground was injured.

No updates were issued Sunday either by state or local law enforcement on the condition of the Kenosha police officer who was shot by a suspect early Saturday. The officer still hasn’t been identified. He was shot on 50th St. near 13th Ave. while investigating vehicle break-ins. An initial report from the police department indicated that the officer’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. At last report the shooter was still being sought.

Racine police are investigating a homicide and another shooting that occurred a day later. The homicide happened Saturday night in the 1700 block of Douglas Ave. A suspect was arrested. Then Sunday afternoon, a man suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the 1000 block of 10th St. The victim was taken to a Milwaukee hospital in serious condition. No mention of any arrests in that case.
