The identities of three members of the same family that died as the result of a Friday night crash on Highway 50 east of Paddock Lake are expected to be released Monday. The three—and a fourth person—had been in a Jeep that was struck by a pick-up. The Jeep landed on its top in a marshy area. The pick-up continued on for a short distance before going off the road and coming to rest in some woods. The driver of the pick-up, along with the fourth Jeep passenger, remain hospitalized. Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.

A Kenosha bar that ran afoul of the law before it even opened is pulling the plug on the project. The White Horse Saloon was to have operated on two levels in what had been the old Finney’s Sports Bar on 60th St. near 22nd Ave. Several weeks ago, before the remodeling project was even finished, the operators staged a party that got out of hand, even though no alcohol was being sold. Kenosha police were so overwhelmed that reinforcements had to be called in from Racine, Pleasant Prairie and the state patrol.

Kenosha County and UW-Parkside are teaming up to manage 139 acres of land alongside Petrifying Springs Park and the Pike River. Parkside actually owns the acreage, but the county brings in added resources and expertise to apply for grants, control erosion, develop trails and remove invasive species. The UW Board of Regents approved the deal last week. The Kenosha County Board is expected to vote on its next month.
