Milwaukee Black Lives Matter Protesters Shot At While Marching Through Pennsylvania

Aug 25 12:15pm

(WPR/WGTD)---A group of Milwaukee-based Black Lives Matter protesters who are marching to Washington D.C. were shot at Monday night as they crossed through Pennsylvania.

In a video taken by one protester of the incident, multiple gun shots can be heard. The video shows what appear to be two men standing near a street talking to protesters.

After the gunshots, protesters can be heard screaming, with one person seemingly directing protesters who are armed to not return fire. Another protester can be heard in the video saying "we're leaving, you don't have to get violent."

Later in the video, a protester can be seen who is bloodied, and who says they were shot in the face.

The encounter happened in Schellsburg, Pennsylvania, according to a report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Wisconsin Public Radio has not confirmed the name of the injured protester, but the Post-Gazette has said local emergency officials said he suffered a non-life threatening injury.

Black Lives Matter protesters, lead by Frank "Nitty" Sensabaugh, began the nearly 800-mile march to Washington D.C. in Milwaukee on Aug. 4. Nitty and other protesters had aimed to arrive in Washington D.C. on Friday, where Rev. Al Sharpton has planned a march on Washington that's expected to draw tens of thousands. Friday also marks the 57th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident, according the Post-Gazette.

"Nitty" Sensabaugh faced a similar situation when his protest made its way through Kenosha on August 4th. A man with a gun stood on his porch and pointed it towards protesters. Protesters say that a complaint was filed but WGTD has not been able to confirm that with authorities.
