The Kenosha cop who punched his wife's boyfriend while on duty New Year's Eve had an earlier encounter with the couple, also while on duty.
In court this week, Kendal West pleaded guilty to a pair of disorderly conduct charges for the New Year's Eve incident and was fined $1,000.
But that's not the end of the officer's problems.
West is up for disciplinary action in front of the Police and Fire Commission. And Police Chief Daniel Miskinis is recommending that West be fired.
The 15-page complaint includes information never before publicly revealed.
For instance, on Christmas Eve, while on patrol in a marked squad, West allegedly tracked down his wife and her male friend to a hotel at I-94 and Highway 50. The complaint says West used his position as a cop to get the couple's room number from the desk clerk. According to the complaint, West repeatedly knocked on the door until he was let in, then had some type of discussion with his wife and the man before leaving.
In a three-way phone call shortly afterward, West reportedly threatened the man.
The New Year's Eve incident involved West punching the man in the parking lot of Kenosha Hospital where he works as a physician.
About an hour and a half earlier, around midnight, West made a short appearance at the Kenosha tavern where his wife was partying with friends. The complaint says five calls for service were received right around the time of the tavern visit, and it's likely that West would've been assigned to handle one of them had he not ducked out.
At this week's sentencing, West's attorney said his client, who served two combat tours in Iraq while on active duty, is being treated for post traumatic stress syndrome.
West has been a Kenosha cop for over five years. The complaint indicates that his performance record includes just one reprimand for an accident involving a squad car in 2014.
In the complaint, Chief McKinnis says West's actions are inexcusable and can't be tolerated.
West's attorney says his client plans to challenge the termination. A pre-hearing has been scheduled for Apr. 20th.
