(WGTD)---Some downtown streets in both Racine and Kenosha will be transformed into high-speed bicycle racing tracks this week.
America’s Dairyland Bike Race Series will stop in Racine on Friday and in Kenosha on Saturday. The last time races occurred in downtown Racine, according to Downtown Racine Corporation Executive Director Kelly Kruse, was some 15 years ago. Bike racing around Simmons Library in Kenosha used to be a regular thing until a few years ago when the main organizer pulled out.
The Tour of America’s Dairyland Bike Race Series is a production of Milwaukee-based Midwest Cycling. The series is described as the largest competitive road cycling series in the U.S.
In Racine, the starting line will be on Main St. at Monument Square. The route will head east on 6th St. to Library Drive then double back in front of Festival Hall to Lake Ave. then back to Main on 4th.
In Kenosha, the loop begins at Simmons Library and heads north through the downtown area before circling back to the square.
A series of races in each town begins at 11:15 and continues all day. All roads will be open to traffic by 10 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
