New Upscale Apartments for Downtown Kenosha Move Forward

(WGTD)---A mid-sized, upscale housing development for downtown Kenosha is a step away from final approval.

The Plan Commission vote unanimously Thursday night to support a 68-unit, five-story building to be called "Lake Terrace." Up next is city council review.

The building will go up on vacant land on 5th Ave. just south of Fifth Ave. Lofts, a two-year-old, 60-unit apartment building.

"Lake Terrace" will feature a mix of studio and one and two-bedroom apartments, with rents ranging from about $1,300 to $2,000. Amenities will include a second-floor terrace overlooking Lake Michigan, a clubhouse, a fireplace lounge and a dog run. Underground and off-street surface parking will be offered for additional charges.

"Lake Terrace" is the latest in a series of housing developments that have either been built or are proposed for the downtown area. A twin-tower complex called Brindisi Towers was recently approved. On the drawing board is the conversion of a former J.C. Penney Dept. store into residences. But that project recently ran into heavy Plan Commission criticism for lack of parking.
