NTSB Investigating Rail Worker's Death; Racine/Mt. Pleasant Water Hook-Ups Approved, Talks to Resolve Dispute May Continue

Sept. 5, 2024 2:10p

From WGTD News:

A Racine City Council vote this week to approve delayed water hook-ups for the Microsoft data center and other projects in Mt. Pleasant may not mark the end of the dispute between the city and village. A city spokesman said the city expects to continue discussions with the village over a water deal that the city says it outdated. City Council members voted 11 to 1 to approve the connections. The vote came after an hour-long closed council meeting Tuesday night, and after several community leaders—speaking in open session—supported approval. Among those who spoke was Jim Paetsch, Vice-President and Executive Director of the Milwaukee 7, the region’s economic development arm. The dispute had also gotten the attention of the governor’s office. A representative from the office had been working to resolve the dispute sooner rather than later. Mt. Pleasant Village President Dave DeGroot did not respond to an emailed request for comment.
