NWS Confirms Two Tornadoes in the WGTD Listening Area

(WGTD)---The National Weather Service issued a pair of tornado warnings on either side of the Kenosha/Walworth county line in Monday's storms because radar indicated rotation in a couple of the stronger cells. They weren't crying wolf.

An examination of the debris by NWS staffers Tuesday confirmed that a pair of weak tornadoes were on the ground for a few minutes south of Lake Geneva in Walworth County and over Camp Lake in Kenosha County.

The Walworth County tornado--with 80 mph winds-- ran roughly parallel to Geneva Lake for about four minutes and covered almost three-and-a-half miles. It was about 50 yards wide.

The Kenosha County tornado actually began in Illinois and lasted about 7 minutes and covered nearly four miles, burning itself out over Camp Lake. That twister was a little stronger with 90 mph winds, earning it an EF-1 rating.

In both cases, damage was mostly confined to trees.

Meanwhile, We Energies crews worked into Tuesday night to restore power to those customers still without it from Monday's storms.

The City of Kenosha announced that it will be picking up branches placed curbside. Residents were asked to call the Public Works Department for collection.
