Panel Recommends Two-Month Kenosha Mask Ordinance Extension

(WGTD)---A city council committee recommended Monday night that Kenosha's mask ordinance be extended for another two months.

The unanimous vote by the Public Safety and Welfare Committee also would extend social distancing requirements in public places.

The ordinance that was adopted last fall is scheduled to expire at the end of the month--unless the full council acts.

Committee member Keith Rosenberg was all for sticking with the mask ordinance until just before the Memorial Day weekend. "Masks do work. They save lives," Rosenberg said. "But unfortunately there are a few people out there that just don't believe in masks because of misinformation and inconvenience. I would say to those people..well..do we need to outlaw safety belts and speed limits which also save lives."

Ald. Bill Siel, the author of the original ordinance, had advocated that it be extended through the end of July. But committee members felt that it might not be needed that long. "If things are moving along as they are, we could achieve herd immunity before July," said Ald. Jan Michalski.
