Paul Nehlen, the controversial challenger to Paul Ryan in the 1st Wisconsin House District race in 2016, is now banned from Facebook and Instagram.
In 2018, Nehlen tweeted a link to a list of his critics that included their names, addresses, and phone numbers. He claimed that most of them were “Jewish” and that “Jewish people were over-represented in the media.” Nehlen has described himself as “pro-white.”
Nehlen was later banned from Twitter after posting a photoshopped image of Prince Harry and his now wife, Meghan Markle. The image of Markle was removed and replaced with a photo of a monkey with the caption “Cheddar Man.” Markle is of mixed race.
In a statement Thursday, Facebook said “We’ve always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology. The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today.”
According to Facebook, Nehlen is personally banned from the sites but other users can still post and share content about Nehlen. Several individuals including the Alex Jones' lead "InfoWars," right-wing pundit Milo Yiannopoulos, and Nation of Islam founder Louis Farrakhan, were also banned.
When Nehlen challenged Ryan in the 2016 Republican primary, he garnered just over 15 percent of the vote.
