Playground Resurfacing Up For Discussion; United Way Director Leaving

Kenosha---The Dream Playground is back on a City Council committee agenda. Members of the Public Works Committee are expected to consider awarding a $650,000 contract to a Greenfield firm for the purpose of replacing the playground's rubber surface. The new playground was closed this past spring after an inspection revealed safety concerns and premature deterioration. At last report city officials are continuing to discuss the matter with the original contractor. Monday's Public Works Committee meeting at the Municipal Building begins at 5:30.

Kenosha---The Executive Director of United Way of Kenosha County has resigned. Tracy Nielsen has accepted an executive position with a non-profit in Minneapolis. Nielsen--who's been on the job here for the past four years--is originally from Minnesota. In a news release announcing the move, United Way Board President Thomas Kelly praised Nielsen for her leadership and accomplishments. Board member Richard Rodenbeck has agreed to step in and replace Nielsen on an interim basis.

Somers---Pokemon players of all ages are being invited to UW-Parkside Monday, Aug. 1st to participate in a Pokemon scavenger hunt. Players will be able to register in the Student Center beginning at 12:50. The event ends at 4. And if you're interested in exploring fall semester classes it's our bet that somebody will be there to help you!  

The hot weather is expected to continue this weekend, with highs around 90. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Saturday night, with the potential for severe storms.
