Power Problems Expected to Linger Overnight For Many

(WGTD)---Looks like it'll be awhile before power is returned to thousands of homes and businesses without it in Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties as the result of the bad weather that swept through Tuesday evening.

Two hours after the storms hit, a spokesperson for We Energies said crews were still in the damage assessment phase, and that the full impact probably wouldn't be known until the sun came up.

Just over 10,000 outages were reported by We Energies in Kenosha County, with the vast majority of those in the city. Another 1,000 in the western part of the county are the responsibility of Alliant.

In Racine County, about 9,900 customers of We Energies lost power. Service to about 4,000 customers appeared to be restored before midnight.

In Walworth County, the combined total between We Energies and Alliant was about 7,700 earlier in the evening.

The outage list in Kenosha County includes WGTD, which has its transmitter and studios located on Gateway Technical College's Kenosha campus. There's no word on when power might be restored, enabling the station to return online and over the air.

Numerous reports of downed trees, branches and power lines were received from all three counties. Small fires were touched off. Sheridan Rd. in Kenosha around 65th St. was completely blocked because of downed wires. Large neighborhoods were dark.

The National Weather Service says a third round of storms is possible for Wednesday as a cold front moves through.
