From WGTD News:

City of Racine’s mask mandate is no longer in effect. Reacting to new guidance on masks from the Centers for Disease Control, Racine Mayor Cory Mason signed an emergency declaration that went into effect at noon Friday that suspends enforcement of the mask ordinance. Earlier this week, the CDC said that fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except in businesses or workplaces where masks are still required.

Wisconsin is in the running with three other states to build a new electric vehicle. That’s according to Henrik Fisker, chairman and CEO of Fisker, Incorporated, the California based company that plans to partner with Foxconn to make the car. Foxconn and Fisker announced Thursday that they’ve finalized the details of the framework of their partnership. Speaking on CNBC, Fisker said it’s possible that the new vehicle will be built at Foxconn’s under-construction campus in Mt. Pleasant, but that three other states have put forth offers. The companies say they want to begin production a little over two years from now.

Racine’s plan commission took a long, critical look this week at a major, downtown development project. Cardinal Capital is proposing a seven-story, mixed-use development on the vacant lot where Porters Furniture once stood. The Planning, Heritage and Design Commission took comments from the public and grilled the developer and city staff. While the owners of the only existing building on the block—Olympia Brown Church—had no major problems, others complained that the proposed structure wouldn’t fit in with other buildings in the area. The developer agreed to study some modifications. The discussion is expected to resume in a few weeks.

A man who worked as a manager at a Mt. Pleasant hotel has been charged with third and fourth degree sexual assault for alleged incidents that occurred with a woman he supervised. Bond for Rogieross Calma was set at $10,000 Thursday. According to the criminal complaint, the woman admitted that she allowed some advances while the two were in the room where Calma lived in the Delta Hotel, and again in his vehicle, but that he went too far. In providing some context, the woman explained that the staff at the hotel was small, and that employees fraternized with one another. The woman said she immediately quit after the room incident.

Work will continue this summer to shore up the banks of the Pike River as its flows through Kenosha County’s Petrifying Springs Park. The main goal of the two-year-long project is to keep pollutants out of the river as it empties into Lake Michigan. The project involves planting native vegetation, rebuilding trails, replacing a pedestrian bridge and moving a playground. According to a news release from the county, the work is being funded by grants and from profit sharing from the park’s beer garden and from Boundless Adventures, an outdoor challenge course in the county’s Bristol Woods Park.
