(WGTD)---In a recent appearance on WGTD’s Morning Show, the new director of the Racine Art Museum in downtown Racine provided some insight on how he plans to run the place.
Robb Woulfe fully took the reins from Bruce Pepich on July 1st. Pepich had been RAM’s director for the past 50 years before his phased-in retirement.
Woulfe, who came aboard in January, says he’s spent a significant amount of time exploring the community and seeking input. While the museum is in the process of developing a new strategic plan, Woulfe already has some preferences, believing that places like RAM need to offer exhibits and programs that are dynamic, compelling and engage the community.
As RAM director, Woulfe oversees the largest collection of contemporary crafts in North America. Woulfe refuses to be drawn into the debate over whether crafts can be considered fine art. "For us, it's about creativity," he says. Racine's history is about "makers and innovators."
The Racine Art Museum also includes the Wustum Museum on Northwestern Ave., where education programs and art classes are run.
Woulfe's influence on RAM's exhibits and programs won't be felt fully for a couple of years. That's because exhibits are planned 2-3 years in advance.
