(WGTD)---With demonstrators near the courthouse, a Kenosha County court commissioner scheduled an arraignment for Kyle Rittenhouse following an hour-long preliminary hearing Thursday. Rittenhouse is the Illinois teenager who killed two people and wounded a third during last summer's Jacob Blake protests.
Following testimony by a Kenosha Police Dept. detective, Commissioner Larry Keating found probable cause existed and set a Jan. 5th date for Rittenhouse's arraignment on six charges.
One of Rittenhouse's attorneys, Mark Richards, failed in an effort to get some of the charges dismissed. During the hearing, Richards used various lines of questioning to stress the defense's contention that Rittenhouse acted entirely in self-defense.
Commissioner Keating said it'll be up to a jury to decide the case. For now, though, Keating said: "All reasonable, conflicting inferences at this juncture are resolved in favor of the state."
To make his points, Richards put up various screen shots from videos that live-streamed the events of Aug. 25th.
Meanwhile, about 25 Rittenhouse supporters--some armed with others carrying signs--milled about in Civic Center Park while the hearing was going on virtually.
During the hearing, Rittenhouse--who is free on $2 million bail--sat socially-distanced from Richards in Richards' office.
