Racine----What's good for A & E Tools is good for its employees. That seemed to be the main message delivered Monday to about 75 employees of the family-owned business by 1st District Republican Congressman Paul Ryan.
Ryan--who's facing a primary challenge Tuesday from far-right conservative Paul Nehlen--highlighted the Republican plan for economic growth in the 30-minute forum that also featured questions from the audience.
While the first one dealt with the Packers, subsequent questions featured more substantive issues like tax reform, government regulations and trade.
Ryan said adopting incentives for manufacturers would benefit everyone, including workers.
No mention was made of Nehlen or Tuesday's primary. Ryan took note of Donald Trump--his party's standard bearer--only once.
Trump, incidentally, outlined his economic plan during a speech in Detroit Monday.
Ryan addressed a second group of manufacturing sector employees later in the day at Ocenco in Pleasant Prairie. But the workers there didn't confine their questions to economic issues, raising a variety of topics, including gun control and whether it's too late to replace Trump as the Republican presidential nominee. (It is, Ryan said.)
One note of interest---at the Racine stop, Ryan predicted that the new Amazon Fulfillment Center in Kenosha will eventually employee 5,000. Currently, according to Ryan, the company employees about 2,500.
