Speakers Express Views at CUSH Vigil But Lantern-Launching Scrubbed

Kenosha---With Thursday evening's storm moving in, members of Congregations United to Serve Humanity conducted a vigil at the lakefront in the wake of the recent police shootings around the nation.

About 75 people attended.

A planned lantern launch at the harbor channel was scrubbed because of strong winds. Despite the weather, several clergy spoke, urging unity to improve race relations and law enforcement's standing with the minority community. "The power rests in the people coming together," said the Rev. Lawrence Kirby of 2nd Baptist Church.

At the gathering, representatives of the N-Double-A-C-P announced that the local chapter will be hosting a community meeting on police issues at Lincoln Park on August 11th. The forum will be held in the Oberletti Center beginning at 6:15.
