(WGTD)---The fence is back up. Sheridan Rd. is partially closed. And the National Guard is paying a return visit.
Preparations for possible destruction and violence in the wake of a pending decision on whether to charge the officer who shot Jacob Blake last summer are continuing.
Gov. Evers' office said in a news release Monday afternoon that 500 troops have been mobilized. "As has been the case under previous missions, Guard members called to active duty may only be used to provide support to local law enforcement and to protect critical infrastructure and cultural institutions necessary for the well-being of the community, and to provide support to first responders such as the Kenosha Fire Department," the release said.
The fence is encircling the same area that was protected last summer: The Public Safety Building, the courthouse and the courthouse annex along with a few other buildings.
The courthouse and the county administration building remain open for business with a deputy manning an access point at 56th St. and 10th Ave.
Sheridan is blocked from 52nd St. to 60th St., as are roads in the immediate area of the fence.
There's been no official word on whether a charging announcement will be issued, other than the estimate of the first two weeks of January.
The 500 troops are being sent at the request of local officials.
