Tighter COVID-19 Restrictions On The Way In Racine

Nov. 23, 2020 9:15p

(WGTD)---The City of Racine is tightening up its "Safer Racine" restrictions.

Beginning Friday, capacity limits on bars and restaurants will drop from 50% to 25%. Retail establishments, including grocery stores, must cap patronage at 50% of capacity. Places of worship will stay at 50%, but special events will be capped at either 25% or 50 people, whichever is less.

In  news release, Health Department Director Dottie-Kay Bowersox said the new restrictions are meant to stem the anticipated surge in virus cases during the holidays.

Meanwhile, City Attorney Scott Letteney filed two briefs with the state Supreme Court Monday. They're in response to a lawsuit filed by several private schools that are seeking to overturn Bowersox's order on school building closures. Letteney argued that Bowersox is well within her rights as a local health officer to order such a closure.
