(WGTD)---Contributing to a holiday toy drive in Kenosha and attending a benefit for Kenosha's Shalom Center and the Sharing Center in Trevor are just a couple of ways we can help out the less fortunate among us.
Jaxson and Jadyn’s Christmas Toy Drive has drop-off boxes at nine locations in the area. An Amazon wish list has also been established.
Jaxon is 13-year-old Jaxon Thomas who tells WGTD Morning Show host Greg Berg that he loves helping other kids. Jaxon, who has autism, won a governor’s service award earlier this year for his efforts.
He’s assisted by 19-year-old Jadyn Eisenbraun who got to know Jaxon through his mother.
The cut-off date for donations is December 2nd.
The items that are being collected will be distributed at a festive invite-only event that’s scheduled for December 20th. The recipients are identified through a collaboration with area schools.
The benefit for the Shalom Center and the Sharing Center is this Saturday at Union Park Tavern beginning at 6 p.m. There's a $5 cover charge. The tavern will be donating the evening's beverage sales to the non-profits.
The directors of both the Shalom Center and the Sharing Center spoke on the same Morning Show that featured the toy drive.
They noted that the number of people seeking help from food pantries in Kenosha County has steadily increased over the years, even though the county’s population has remained stagnant.
