The two relative unknowns who are competing in Tuesday's Democratic primary in the 1st congressional district have impressive backgrounds but differ at times on the issues.
Tom Breu is a Janesville plumbing engineer who holds college degrees in business, math and mechanical engineering. On the issues? Breu—who says he’s a strong Bernie Sanders supporter—favors what’s known as the Wall Street Transaction Tax, downplays the national debt and calls for deep cuts in military spending.
The other Democrat in the race is Ryan Solen, an S-C Johnson employee and Iraqi war vet who has degrees in Information Systems and international relations. He positions himself as more of a moderate.
While differences exist, there are far more areas of agreement.
Breu and Solen are running for the right to go up against the winner of Tuesday's Republican primary between incumbent Paul Ryan and Paul Nehlen.
Breau and Solen spoke to Linda Flashinski on last Saturday's Community Matters program.
