(WGTD)---At least two people were shot and wounded during a graveside service Thursday afternoon for the man who was fatally shot by a Racine police officer last month.
One of the injured was flown to a hospital while the other was treated and released, according to police.
At least some of the shots apparently came long-distance from a vehicle just outside of Graceland Cemetery. Bullets sailed through the throng of mourners then continued on into Lockwood Park where people were playing basketball.
Jerry Fredericks lives south of Graceland and just a half a block from evidence markers in the street denoting bullet casings.
Fredericks had been sitting in his kitchen when he heard gunshots, which he initially believed to be a 21-gun salute.
He stuck his head outside. When the shots continued, he ducked back in. "I wasn't about to be nosey and maybe get myself shot or killed," he said.
Before retreating, Fredericks noted mourners in the distance running everywhere for cover. Fredericks only heard the close-by shots and didn't see the vehicle.
Video of the funeral service shows panic breaking out when the shots are fired.
In response to the latest shooting and a rising tide of gun violence, Mayor Cory Mason posted a video indicating that the city's juvenile curfew ordinance will be strictly enforced through the weekend. Anyone under 18 must be home by 11 p.m.
"Today's heinous shooting at a cemetery while a family was already mourning the loss of a loved one is a new low for these perpetrators of violence in our community," Mason said.
He urged anyone with information about the cemetery shooting to contact police.
