Vigil Held in Wake of Booker Murder; 3 Face Charges for Helping Suspect Flee

Apr. 27, 2022 8:30p

(WGTD)---A total of three people are now facing charges for allegedly helping a Racine murder suspect flee.

42-year-old Terry Jackson is wanted in the death over the weekend of 30-year-old Brittany Booker. Her body was found in her vehicle Sunday morning. Police said she suffered a gunshot wound to the head, among other injuries.

Appearing in court Wednesday on a charge of harboring or aiding a felon was 24-year-old Diamond Hood. Bond was set at $10,000. Hood purportedly admitted driving Jackson to Chicago on Sunday. While aware of earlier charges that had been filed against Jackson, Hood may not have known about the murder.

Also on Wednesday, two other women--ages 30 and 34--were picked up on the same charge. They're expected to be in court on Thursday. Details of their alleged involvement weren't immediately released.

Police believe the Booker murder is related to an incident earlier this year in which Jackson allegedly used a hammer to attack both Booker and a woman she was trying to help. The woman had been dating Jackson and was trying to break up with him.

Meanwhile, about 200 people attended a 'Stop the Violence' rally Wednesday night in the parking lot of the Tyler Domer Community Center.

Organizer Kelly Scroggins urged people to cooperate with police as they try to bring Booker's attacker to justice.

Another speaker was Sylvia Bennett-Stone, national director of a group called "Voices of Black Mothers United." She lost her daughter to violence in 2004. She said citizens need to continually focus on ending violence, and not just gather in the wake of a murder.
