(WGTD)---Along with races for governor, U-S senate, various legislative seats and county office-holder positions, there are a number of referendums on the ballots in all three counties in the WGTD listening area.
Voters in the City of Kenosha may be a bit confused by not one but two referendums on dark store legislation. One is authored by the city, the other, by the county. The referendums ask voters whether they’d like to see bills get passed that would limit the ability of big box retailers to lower their property tax assessments.
Also on city ballots…a referendum asking for a tax levy increase of about $900,000 to pay for 5 new police officers and 2 new firefighters.
In addition to the dark store questions, Kenosha County voters will see a referendum on whether marijuana should be allowed for medical purposes.
Racine County voters will see referendums with multiple questions covering legalizing both medical and recreational marijuana as well as imposing taxes on it. City of Racine voters will also have a city-only referendum asking if marijuana should be decriminalized.
There are some pricey school referendums in western Racine County. The Waterford Graded School District wants $25 million dollars for school improvements---and---the Joint School District #1 of Union Grove---Paris---Dover and Yorkville is seeking about $8 million dollars for school improvements
Walworth County has a dark stores referendum. Additionally---there are referendums in the following school districts: Williams Bay---Big Foot Union High School---Delavan-Darien---and Whitewater.
Also---the Town of Sugar Creek and the Village of Bloomfield are floating referendums to increase their tax levies to fund various municipal projects. The Town of Delavan has a referendum looking to borrow $4 million dollars to build a new fire station.
And---the Burlington Area School District---which spans all three counties---has a referendum asking voters to approve the issuing of just over $43-million dollars in general obligation bonds to build a new school and various improvement projects at other schools.
