Wilmot High Closes; KUSD Sets Up a Dashboard to Track Cases

Sept. 24, 2020 7:20p

(WGTD/AP)---Wilmot High School will close for in-person instruction for two weeks because two more students have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number there to three. Two staff members previously tested positive.
Those who have been identified as close contacts with the infected individuals will receive a quarantine letter.
District administrator Dan Kopp said the shutdown is being conducted as a precaution and because the number of staff now on quarantine would not allow all classes to be staffed in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Kenosha Unified has established an online dashboard to track cases in the district. On Thursday it showed that two more staff members or students had contracted the disease—one each at Tremper High School and at Lincoln Middle School.
The total number of positive cases in the district since Sept. 14th—when the school year started—is up to 13. That includes four cases at Indian Trail.
In addition, five students who are enrolled in the district’s remote learning program have tested positive. KUSD gives students the option of either in-person or remote learning.
Wisconsin’s daily count of COVID-19 cases hit its second-highest total to date Thursday, while the seven-day average topped 1,900 for the first time.
That’s nearly three times the seven-day average of 665 from a month ago.
Health authorities are urging people to wear masks, keep a social distance and stay home when possible.
