$6 Million Pipe Replacement Project Complete

May 13, 2025 8:30p

(WGTD0---A $6 million public works project in Kenosha—the benefits of which aren’t visible—is just about complete.

Crews have spent the last nine months replacing part of a large pipe that carries the Pike Creek underground from Washington Park on the city's north side to the harbor.

The small section that needed replacing ran east from Sheridan Rd. between a gas station and a bakery to the next block over where it connects with a pipe that runs underneath 52nd St.

Although expensive, the work needed to be done, according to Public Works Dept. Director Brian Cater. "It was a structure that was going to fail in a matter of time," Cater said. "It was a project that had to be done because the creek wasn't going to stop running and if that structure had failed there could've been catastrophic damage," he said.

Switching the flow to the newly-installed pipe has already been made.

Crews are now putting the finishing touches on restoring the properties in question.
