(WGTD)---Threats of active shooters as schools in Racine, Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie triggered full responses with teams of police officers descending on the buildings Thursday morning. All of the threats were proven to be false.
Racine police received a call just before 8:30 a.m. from someone claiming to be a Park High School teacher, stating that a gunman was in the school and that 15 students had been shot. The caller went on to describe the shooter and the weapon, according to a news release.
The school's resource officer was in the building at the time and had not heard anything.
Similar calls were received about Bradford High School in Kenosha and LakeView Technology Academy in Pleasant Prairie.
In Kenosha Unified, parents were given the option of retrieving their children from the schools, and counselors were made available. "We understand how this incident may have impacted our students," the district said in a message to parents.
In Racine, city police were backed up by officers from Mt. Pleasant and Caledonia and the Racine County Sheriff's Dept.
An investigation to determine the source of the calls is underway.
Several other schools in suburban Milwaukee received similar threats.
