Caledonia's Data Center Developer Revealed; Arrests in Kenosha Said to Cripple a Mexican Cartel's Operations in the Region; New Development in Somers House Death

Sept. 23, 2025 9p

From WGTD News:

Microsoft is the company behind a proposed data center in Caledonia. For several months, village officials and residents have been discussing a proposed data center by an unknown company on land near the Oak Creek Power Plant. Confirmation that the company is Microsoft came Tuesday. The proposed facility would provide support for Microsoft's much larger data center development in Mt. Pleasant. An information meeting will be held at village hall Wednesday evening from 5-7. Microsoft officials are expected to be on hand to answer questions. The proposed development hinges in part on a zoning change that needs to be approved by the village board.

A shoplifting ring with ties to a Mexican cartel was busted in Kenosha in recent months. According to a news release issued Tuesday by the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office, eight members of the cartel, including several leaders, were arrested in the area. Four of the eight posted $25,000 cash bonds and were immediately detained and deported by ICE. The four others remain in jail. Local authorities were brought into the investigation this past spring. Deputies observed the group in action in Pleasant Prairie and a traffic stop ensued in which $21,000 worth of stolen merchandise was recovered immediately. Searches of an apartment at 3919 28th Ave. and a storage unit resulted in thousands of dollars of additional stolen property being recovered. Federal authorities believe the cartel is responsible for a hundred million dollars in thefts annually across the country. Proceeds from the sale of the goods are believed to further the cartel's narcotic, firearm and human trafficking mission.

The case against a 31-year-old man who was accused of having a role in the death of a man in an apartment above the Somers House Tavern in 2023 appears to be headed toward a plea bargain. Anthony Kanabay was charged with felony murder in the death of Dustin Hogan. The case took an unusual turn earlier this year when then-deputy district attorney Drew Burgoyne wrote a letter to the judge saying he couldn't in good conscience continue the prosecution as charged. That's because new evidence revealed that a second man was involved in the altercation. District Attorney Xavier Solis stepped in to review the case. In court Tuesday,  a tentative plea bargain was outlined, but the defendant said he needed time to think about it and review evidence. For now, the case remains on the trial schedule for next week.
