Cold Case Investigation Leads to Planned Body Exhumation

Town of Paris---Well over two decades ago,  the body of a newborn was found by trappers underneath the Des Plaines River Bridge on CTH 'N'. The infant had been born alive and the case classified as a homicide, but never solved.

'Baby John Doe' was buried at. St. John's Cemetery in the Town of Randall.

Investigators from the Kenosha County Sheriff's Dept. will be returning to the grave site this Thursday to exhume the body in a bid to collect tissue samples for DNA testing, something that wasn't readily available in 1989 when the death occurred.

The move comes after unspecified "new information" was received about a year ago, prompting the department to reopen the case and seek to perform the testing, according to a news release.

Back in 1989, Allan Kehl was sheriff. He put out a news release seeking the public's help in identifying the baby's mother. "Our intention is to locate the mother of this child to complete our investigation and to insure that another child will not grow for nine months and be allowed to experience life for a brief moment and then spend eternity cold and nameless," he wrote.

A time for Thursday's exhumation has not yet been set. In addition to deputies, members of the Medical Examiner's office and representatives of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children are expected to be on hand.
