Different Results in Siler Shooting Had Chico Been Around?

Kenosha---Things might’ve ended differently for Aaron Siler had Chico been on the scene.

Chico—Kenosha Police Officer Pablo Torres’ police dog—was accidentally left behind when Torres took off on foot in pursuit of Siler after the suspect crashed his car while being chased.

The 26 year old Kenosha man was eventually cornered in an auto body shop and shot.

In releasing the results of a nearly year-long investigation into the fatal shooting last week, District Attorney Bob Zapf indicated that Torres fired at the six-foot-four Siler after he made a move toward him.

Zapf said Torres had intended to let Chico do the heavy lifting and give chase. But for whatever reason Chico's cage door didn't open.  "What happened in the haste of getting out of the vehicle and pushing that release button...it didn't activate that release," Zapf said.

Chico remained in the squad car.

Back-up officers arrived at the auto body shop seconds later to assist Torres, but by then it was all over.

Zapf ruled last week that Torres' shooting of Siler was justified because the officer believed the suspect was armed with a pipe.
