Kenosha---A few years ago, it appeared that the downtown area stood a good chance of regaining a full-service hotel.
New owners of Best Western Harborside went before the city council to unveil ambitious remodeling plans.
Some changes took hold--like a new lobby and a large conference center--but a restaurant and bar never materialized. In addition, the hotel ran afoul of city fire codes and was temporarily closed.
The Best Western suffered another major setback Monday night when aldermen voted to strip the place of its liquor license---the owner is facing federal charges out east of allegedly smuggling tobacco products in an attempt to avoid sales taxes.
No one from the hotel was at Monday's meeting. The future of the property is uncertain.
